Because no child should miss out on the magic & mayhem of Halloween

In the last edition of this newsletter, there was a trivia question that I snuck in with an opportunity to win a small prize. That question was: What is the day of Nov 2nd known as and what is its significance? The answer: Nov 2nd is known as All Soul’s Day following the traditional All Saint’s Day and the significance is that the less fortunate people of the towns would ask for leftovers of “soul cakes” that people had made from their harvest and in exchange would say prayers to lost loved ones. Personally, I think this shows just how far back the idea of charitable giving goes and how we can learn from the past. It does not have to be money you give. Could be your time. It could even be that you make it a point to say hi and ask how they are doing. I encourage you all to reach out to neighbors and to try to connect with them. We all need help from time to time.

Nashua just started back at school and some of our volunteers participated in the Back to School Night hosted by the Nashua Public Library. They had a howling good time gifting each student with a fun little pencil sharpener and talking to parents about the charity and how we would like to help them.

Have you heard of the Arlington Street Community Center? I had no idea that it is the one and only community center that exists in Nashua. I mean sure, there are other agencies out there but this is the only community center. You can find out more about them on their website HERE.
I recently had a meeting with the director who invited the S.C.A.R.E. charity to the Halloween Party they host every year just before Halloween. This year it will be on October 26th from 11am to 3pm. That means there is a place to get your costume to wear on Halloween and attend a really cool Halloween Party all in the same place! It’s free to attend and bring a friend. More details to come!

Spookville Motel: The haunted house is coming along quite nicely. Not as quickly as I would like but these hot days can really slow the group down. Are you interested in helping with some of the construction? We sure could use a few more hands. You haven’t done anything like this before? Give it a try – how many people can say they helped build a haunted house? Just keep your eyes peeled on our website and our Facebook page for the next build date.

Pirates & Princesses: We are reaching out from our pumpkin shell a bit this time and will find ourselves in costumes for the Milford Pirates & Princesses Day on Sunday, Sept 22nd. There is a definite need for help with this event. We will need to plan an appropriately themed activity, have people helping to sell some crafts we have made, taking names and numbers, the list just goes on.
**Special Request** S.C.A.R.E. has been called upon to do what it does best – put people into costumes. They are asking if we could find some fun spirited people who would be willing to dress up as princesses for the day on their behalf. Let me know if you are interested…
